I am in the market for a new gun and am stuck on which on to get. I want somthing that will reach out and touch a coyote at least 500yds away. I could do this with my .270 wsm but I need a quick follow up shot. I'm thinking the Bushmaster varminter(.233) or the CZ 550 varmint laminated (22-250). Any advice?

well its a little pricey to buy an shoot but

you caint go wrong with a .300 weatherbe

at 500 yards a coyote or a ground hog is

nothing but dust an dride bones.

A .223 isn't gonna have enough horsepower past about 300 yards. I would lead towards a .22/250 or .220 Swift. If you are consistently shooting over 400 yards then I would consider a .243.

I'm w/ Smallmouthman - .243 will give you the range and energy you're looking for. Hornady also makes a full line of boattail bullets - super lite to heavy. These are very stable in flight, solid knock-down power at impact at long ranges.

My 2 cents . . .

I shoot both the 220 Swift and the 243 Win both will do a number on a "dog" if I do my part. The 243 has the capability to soot some heavier bullets thus the BC is improved over the 220 Swift but the Swift kicks out some good high velocity which improves the MPBR so it boils down to which do you want to load for......I did have a 6mm-06 but it was only marginally better than the 243 Win with the bullets I wanted to use for "hogs". In my guns and reloads the 220 Swift has about 50 yds or so on the 243 Win for MPBR (max. point blank range).
