I have a pontoon float boat, where is the best place to put in and take out and catch a lot of good fish. When will the smallmouth start hitting. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

There's a small ramp behind the newport police station. I have'nt floated the river so I can't tell you where you can take out at. It's possible to float to where the river merges with the French Broad on a day float from there. I hear you can take out there. Maybe someone will chime in and inform us both.



You can probably catch smallies year round there, but you'll have better numbers from April through October.

hey guys ive fished that stretch of river all my life you can take out about a mile and a half from where the pigeon and french broad meet a sam tva ramp called rankin if you can contact jerry or barnet williams they on the big farm there at the juntion of the two rivers lots of time theyll gladly let you take out there i would advise doing this in the summer time with a small float rig because the back water will be near the mouth of the pigeon and floating from the william farm down to the ranking ramp will be almost impissible due to slow current not to mention a few idiots on the water that dont pay attention the only bad place you ll encounter on the pigeon float is about a mile or so down stream from the put in there a bad shoal that drops like a waterfall but you can get on the bank and walk around it lots of good smallie fishing as well as large mouth and sauger hope this help you some if you need i can get you guys a number where you can contact the williams brothers about taking out there
