Ok, I am really enjoying Bad Habit's SI Pictures! It is amazing at the things showing up. I just cannot really understand what in the world I am looking at. I understand the left side and right side, but the angle of the picture that shows up on the screen with the shadows and things. Is it like an aerial view looking down at a 45 degree angle out both sides of the boat or.........???? I can't depict what is up down, how deep or shallow an object is.

I really want to understand this because it is indeed, New Technology of the Future!! Can someone get an image and go to paint and describe the things and the way we NEED to look at them?

Please forgive me, I'm just very confused.

Ok, I found this Image doing a search for some tips on reading the SI Unit. (This is a dumb way to describe it) But, To me, this picture looks just like you are in a helicopter, looking straight down. The sailboat looks like it's laying on it's side and you can see the school of fish swimming around and also the bait. I don't know if the "Aerial" view is the Correct mind set to read it, but that's the only thing I can come up with. Opinions Please.

Let me see if I can help, say you were in the boat going North, and it says 100ft to the left, if you were to stop right there and build a bridge from the boat out 100 ft and then removed the water and walked across the bridge and look straight down that's what you would see. Hop ethis helps. It's like having a 150 ft long x-ray tube shooting straight down.

Don't know much about the side imaging, but have used sonar now for thirty plus years and the best way I test out any new graph is to take it somewhere that I know well. See how it contrasts to old readings from a unit that you had in the past relied on. With the side imaging I would certainly test on areas where I know there are trees and stumps, sunken rock, and most importantly I would have to hit bridge tier and look at it all the way around and from different distances. Once you get a feel at looking at known structure it makes it allot easier when comparing the same on a new unit.

my fishing partner has one of the SI the longer the shadow the farther off the bottom the object is and I think it is looking down at a 45 deg angle like you said. you can go to hummingbird and they have videos that you can watch that teachs you how to read the SI unit.
