BH, I got to thinking, next time you are up at watauga. you should scan around over the river channel out from Fish Springs Marina (Tom White's) There is an old underwater Bridge that was never torn down in the area somewheres. Not sure where exactly, but I've heard it's out from the Marina. There's a picture of it in and "Old Butler" book I have.

Honestly, I'm not sure. But at least 100+ feet deep, Maybe more towards 150-200 ft.
I was just reading in that "Old Butler" book and it had a picture of the old concrete bridge that ran across watauga river back in the day. Here is a link to the book.

Old Butler

I've been looking all over the internet and can't find any old pictures of Butler. I will have to get that book and try to take some pictures

If it is more than 100 to 150 feet deep the SI won't get it.

There is a cove just past the old town that ALWAYS holds fish. My brother used to come down from N.C. and slay bass all around the old town of butler. His electronics would show the frames and old buildings and even cars that where left behind. Two years ago I can remember him catching 60+ pounds of bass in a day near the old town. He has moved to Kansas now and everytime I mention going fishing he tells me to go to that spot in early spring and make sure I take a camera! I plan to do that this year for sure.

Would be interesting to see how things are today BH. get us a few shots with your gear I am curious now.....

Yeap, I know the area of where Old Butler is under water. it is just at 100 ft deep at full pool. It's up near the point 5 area when you start heading into Roans Creek. That would be very interesting if Bad habit could get some images of that!!! I have been very interested about Old Butler and the history for years. My buddy Little Roy has the actual newspaper with the pictures of the old butler site when they drained the lake down back in 1981 or 82 to repair the dam. the old (bughouse) jailhouse and shoe store is still standing. Made of Rocks. Plus there are quite a few foundations that are still there. My grandpa was on the crew that had to relocate the cemetary graves.
I don't think I could have done that. Next time I am over at Little Roy's shop, I'll take my camera and snap some pictures of the newspaper article's and pictures.

This is a good History Topic!!

I will actually be up there with my buddy Terry this saturday. We will be breaking in his new Triton! If you are up there, keep an eye out for us. It is a black and silver 196 with a 200 merc. I will be watching for you. We will probably be running around all over the lake for the break in. Hopefully we'll see you up there. We will be putting in at Lake Shore marina.

lake shore is the easiest and best place if you happen to be by yourslef. It's where i always put in if I'm by myself. The ramp is angled just right so you don't have to back all the way out into the lake. Fish Springs is Awful when the water is low. It's impossible to launch/load by yourslef.
Then you have Little milligan, which sux because there is no floating dock. Every time we put in up there, I always write "Dock please!' on the fee envelope! LOL!!! maybe one of these years, it will pay off.
