ok guys give your input i took the river boat out for a few hr this evening to see if i had all the holes welded up while running back to the truck the 15hp johnson started loosing power and stalled she never locked up and wouldnt start back after getting home it had cooled down and started but smoked bad checked compression it very low first thought head gasket it was fine so i went a little deaper to find pistons are scorched and broke rings i bought this thing in 95 doesnt have 100 hrs on it i ran the oil that it was broken in on quicksilver but it failed any suggestions

I hate to hear @ your motor , was water pump working ?

Sounds as if the water pump was out, over heated the motor and got the pistons. Sounds like a rebuild job to me.

Sorry to hear about your motor partner, It does sound like water pump problem and over heating. I lost a motor like that but an old Merc cause I did not check to see if the pee hole was putting water out. Took care of that problem and never owned another boat with out water pressure guage

guys the water pump was working i checked that when i hooked the hose to it and got it to start im just wandering if i might have got a bad bottle of oil or something anyway tore it down today and took it to the machine shop gonna punch it 30 over and go again i did notice that the oil that was in the engine that i could see was milky like it had water in it so i drained the premix out of the three gallon tank and strained it not a drop off water oh well one of those things thats why you keep an xtra motor laying in the shop should be breaking itin in a week or so

Milky oil, sounds like blown head gasket????

Man that is a hard pill to swallow. I really hate to hear that. I agree with the others, sounds like a major rehaul to me.

did you check for water in your gas i blew one over water in my gas flaked the top off a piston

from what I understand that will become more & more common due to ethanol in our fuel. don't know this for a fact but have heard it.
