not too hard to do, and you will need a new pump housing and might as well put a new water pump base in it as well. Just make sure you put the pump in the right way.....look at how the old one is in the housing and make sure the fins go the same way.



The pump base has a seal on it, where the drive shaft goes thru it. This gets worn and water can leak in the lower unit.

I have always put a light coating of grease on the water pump housing to lub the impeller on the first startup. Also put grease on the splines on the main shaft where in goes into the powerhead. This will help insure the shaft is easy to remove the next time you have to remove the lower unit.......................Al

forgot to add that Al, good info....also, if it is going to be a little while before you run it, use dish soap instead of grease, because the grease if left on the pump, can degrade the rubber, and cause premature failure



Of course, with the luck I have has with boat motors....I don't know if anyone would want to hear what I have to say
