Well I decided that I was gonna squeeze one more FNF day in before the warmer water started this month. Put in at 25E bridge around 8:30 this morning to 46 degree water. I thought that I hit it right, cloudy skies, cool water, and very little to no breeze. Headed up the river. Stopped at the place that Charger and myself had a good time 2 weeks ago. Not a bite. Really dingy water this time. Very little visibility here. Headed to the next spot, 4 take downs and 1 largemouth to show for my efforts. My buddy landed a largemouth also on this bank with a drop shot.
At this point I thought that I should have went with my intial instincts this morning when I seen the water color and overcast skies. CRANKBAIT DWAYNE, THROW THE CRANKBAIT!!!!! The last hour of the day I gave into my instincts and tossed my FNF rod down and grabbed my little spinning outfit with the little crankbait tied on. Landed 3 fish within an hour on the crankbait. Not much in size but hey at least they were tugging my string. Water was 48-49.8 degrees up near Poor Valley.
So, long story short, go with your instincts instead of staying and trying to force feed them something that is obviously isn't working or the conditions don't dictate using. 5 fish for the day for my boat. Not what I wanted, but nobody to blame but myself. Looks like if nothing changes with the weather, the FNF bite may be off as far as I am concerned for the Big Indian up in the river area. Still beats a good day at work.
