thinking of buying a lowrance x96 for the front of my boat. they are 199$ at bass pro. would like to have some feedback on this. going to the classic next weekend I see lowrance has a booth there, hopefully I can get some better info. and a better price.

I was also thinking of buying that exact same unit. I've done some research on it and it seems like the best unit available in that price range. I have one on the front of my boat and the only thing that I don't like about it is it is hard for me to see after dark if i am standing up other then that great unit

don't it have a dimmer button

That's the only thing I don't like about lowrance is the dimmer switch it does have one but it don't go dim enough not to blind you specially when driving down the lake at night I have to hold my hand in front of it to shade the off the light

Mine is indash and I love it. It picks up things my Hummingbird 525 don't. There is so many options on the menu you can get it dialed in no problem, in fact I've got mine close to factory settings. The only downside is that it has trouble reading at higher speeds when going down the lake, but you wouldn't have to worry about it since your running it on the front.
