I will be going up there the 1st week in July fishing for smallies. I was just wondering if anyone has ever fished it before. If it like what you watch on TV, I will have a ball.

I'm not sure where we will be putting in at. My wife's mother lives up there and some of her friends are big time smallie fisherman and said they would take me out when we came up. I will try and find out the location!

Cool, Lake Erie can be a little overwhelming is why I asked. If your going with people in the know you'll be alright.

I fish it a lot but mostly for walleye, just started doing smallmouth last year with some very limited success.

We probably had our best year for the walleyes last season in quite a few years, a lot of fish and a lot of fun.

I love the "Big Pond"

I have fished it twice . I was in London , Ont . doing some machinery buyoffs and met some guys that took me out . I loved it , we caught walleye and a few smallmouth . It is very easy to be overwhelmed by the lake ,try fishing like you were on Cherokee or Douglas and you should be fine . The guys I went with knew the area well and we camped out over structure and had a couple of hogs (29" walleye ) . Take a camera because you will need it . Good luck and be safe .

We fish out of Foxhaven Marina on Catawba Island. Catawba is right next door to Port Clinton. One of our crew has an Erie boat and we keep our camper up there all year.

If you're fishin' for smallies you can't beat softcraws. Expensive, but they're like candy for your "sweety" on Valentine's Day. Drop shotting is also a good system on the big water. One of the big Pro tournies there last summer had every pro fishing drop shots. Tubes are another otption. If walleyes are what you'll try most of the baitshop up there have a message board that will give general locations of where they've been "catchen'm" and what rig is working best. If you're on a charter, no worries, the Captain will put you on whatever you're after.

Erie is notorious for being rough and unpredictable. Be safe out there and good luck.

Thanks Guys. I know the lake is BIG and I'm looking forward to getting on and catching some fish. I think we are also going to walleye fish as well.

TCII I know exactly where you go out of, my fishing buddy has a place directly behind Marine Max (the big Sea Ray dealer) and is right on the water. I probably spent close to ten weekends up there last year. Wish I was bobbing in the chop right now

Our camper is at Sleepy Hollow campground across the street from Wall-Mart. The guy that owns the Erie boat is Joe. He spends most of his weekends during the summer months there also. I don't get there as much as he does but please stop by sometime. Our camplot is 42 (I think). That's close anyway. If that's off a bit, just ask for Joe. His boat is a 28 foot Proline at Foxhaven. Hope to see you up there this season.
