Secretary of Interior Dirk Kempthorne attended Media Day at the Bassmaster Classic today and announced that more than $700 million collected through the Dingle-Johnson Act (an excise tax on the purchase of fishing equipment) will be put toward fishing-related projects this year.

The types of projects slated to receive funding include fish-stocking, habitat upgrades and public boating access improvements (the construction of ramps, piers, etc.). All 50 states and several U.S. territories will share the funds.

Sounds like a great plan.
