Very good question. I really hope that they get the lakes back up to summer pool this year but it is not looking good at this point. Obviously, it all depends on the rain we get. I don't recall last year, but it seems as though we are getting a pretty good amount of rain early this year but the lake levels do not indicate it. Cherokee has came up some, but Douglas on the other hand.

I have been keeping a daily log of the lake levels for Douglas and Cherokee since the 20th of January of this year. Here is the lake levels for these 2 lakes for January 20th vs. today. These levels are as of 1 a.m. on these days. The first numbers are for 1/20 and second is as of today.

DOUGLAS 956.41 956.65 +.24

CHEROKEE 1044.36 1047.75 +3.39

Kinda makes a person wonder what is going on.

I have a site on my other PC that shows the lake levels and it also shows the level and the same date last year and right now both lakes are higher than last year at this time I will post the site on here tomorrow if I don't forget.

I also think the water temps are down about 5 degs. from normal so that will have an inpact on the fishing this spring unless the weather changes very soon.

I've been looking at rain fall compared to last year so far it is looking better:

Dec

2006 2007

2.0" 3.8"

Jan.

2007 2008

2.0" 3.3"

Feb.

2007 2008

1.3" 4.5"

We need rain in March and April that is the money months for filling the lake. It seems cherokee and douglas are the redheaded step child when it comes to filling

As for temps I think they are average, last year the water temps. were a lot warmer but trees were also blooming in late Feb/early March last year then we had a cold snap. Last year was bad to say the least.

I dont believe there will be any problem with the lake levels this year ,but I do think it will be a little cooler than normal .therefore the fish wont move up as fast. the bass may be behind a little bit. I did hear something about douglas being lower than normal for a couple of years so they could do some major work. I dont know how true that is.

I hope they get them to summer pool. Looks as if though we are off to a good start. I know Norris is higher than anytime for Feb. that I can remember. Hopefully the rain will continue.

As for the temps. I think alot has to do with the temperature when it does rain. Last year around the middle of Feb we had some warm rains and it warmed the river/lakes quickly. This year we have had some cold rains and the temp's have actually cooled a few degress over the past 2 weeks.

You can go tothe TVA site and click on the dropdowns and select the lake you want. Go tothe next dropdown and click on operating guide and there it is last years data with current years in red. Hope this helps.
