I have owned several smaller boats, the last a 15 foot Alumacraft that we used for everything from bass fishing, to running several miles out into the gulf for bull red fish and trout when we lived in Florida. I have fished for most of my life out of a 1972 venture trihull with a 115 mercury (which I still have) and then I bought my bass boat. The dumb question I have is after watching the pro's practice in Loudon last year is the down rigger or some other device attached to the back of the boats. What were these devices? I couldnt tell if they were downriggers, or if they were some type of new blacklight, can any of you tournament guys fill me in on this item?

It wasnt funny, but I watched one of the pros get stuck in the stump bed there at the point park with a 21-22 foot Ranger and a Merc 225, he got so frustrated that he finally slammed it in gear and gunned it and you could ear the prop chewing up the stump bed and hear the slam of the motor on each stump he chewed through. Guess he was glad his sponsor wasnt there.. hehe

Not sure what it's called but it probable was a device they use for sight fishing or other, it is a Hydraulic pole that you can lower to wher you want it in the mud or what ever and it will hold the boat. Good if your sight fishing in shallow water and don't want to hit the TM, this thing will keep you planted and you want move...

I was talking with Jimmy Houston at the FLW tourny at Loudon/Tellico last spring.....he was showing me his power pole....(no ugly comments now)...looked pretty neat...don't know how it'd work around here in these lakes....but..I'd loved to have one when I was fishing those lakes in Texas....
