Welp, Went out for a little while today. I kinda had a feeling it was gonna be a rough day for fishing, and I was right. I was gonna try to catch a few crappie, but didn't really feel like running all the way up the lake where the reports say they've been catchin' em at. So I just tried to catch a few bass.... Got on the water about 10, by 12 I hadn't caught squat, and only one solid bite. So I thought I might still try to get in a creek channel around some brush and maybe catch a crappie...well I didn't catch a crappie, but I did manage to catch one small smallmouth(about 12-13inches) on a bass assassin. That was it for the day basically....I fished til a little after 2 and called it a day since it was cold and I wasn't seeing no action. There was alot of boats that seemed to be moving around alot, so it seemed about like everyone was having the same luck as me. I'm ready for spring....

Nah, I didn't really try throwing a crank too much, the water temp had gone down from what it was last weekend. It was just shy of 47 last weekend and seen it get 44 degrees even maybe once today...so I figured they weren't gonna be very active with the sudden burst of cool water.

Correction....I caught the one SM on a Crappie Assassin, not a bass assassin. Actually caught it up in a creek throwing into some brush laying over in the water from the bank.

thanks for the report Bubba hate you didn't do any good but maybe next time you will kill them...

I hope the bite is better in 2 weeks thats when we have our club TX there.last year it was great at that time me and my partner won and we caught about 100 fish in 2 days with just about 15 to 18 LM the rest was SM. it was one of the funniest TX's I had fished in a long time.

Thanks Bubba. Just getting to read about Norris is good for me. your efforts today were appreciated. A lady I use to teach with, they had a house down on Big Creek, said a bad day on Norris was better than a good day in Ohio.

Get on some deep chunk rock banks and bluff ends and throw a jerkbait, fish it slowwwwww. Jerk , Jerk, pause (count to 10) then all the way to the boat, then do it again and count to 15 then 20 then 30, etc. I haved counted to 45 before and that's when they would hit it, make sure to vary your retrieve, 2 jerks and pause, one jerk. After a while if that don't work thro it out reel it down about 4 good turns and let it set. then reel up slack and pull real slow with rod tip just enough to make it barley move about 14" then pause again (long pause) and pull with rod tip all the way to the boat about 12 to 14"s at a time and make sure and pause after each pull, vary your length of the pause also.. It is slow but it works for both Smalies and especailly HOG LM... You have to be slowww and have faith in your bait. Try this and I bet you catch fish.... A lot of people say you can't catch them on a jerk bait around here when the water temp is below 45, I beg to differ I have caught them on norris in 39 deg water temp....
I know everyone keeps wanted spring to get here but from know until mid march is when you will catch your biggest fish (fat females full of eggs Large Mouth and Samllies, but especially LM) I think a lot of people actully fish more after the bigger fish have moved back out. Water temp is important but I don't think it is so much as tiem change and moon phase. When the days start getting longer the fish will spawn. If you weight until april to catch big LM then most of the big ones have already done there deed and moved back out. Especially the BIG ones they move in and out qiuck to do there deed. ( I'm talking about the 7+ pounders)...I would like to know what Softy has to say about the spring fishing is it best now or later????
