I dont know how many of you have ever fished West Point, but man what a fishery! I guess the Elite Series is going there for a reason in May. Me and the family just got back from a trip all last week and had a blast! We stayed at Highland Marina, which put us mid lake and around some great fishing! Even though the weather turned sour on us, which seemed like Dogwood Winter, we still caught fish. The Largemouth were moving up to spawn, along with the crappie. The Sunday we got down there, a local tournament was weighing in and it took 30 lbs. to win it!!! Along with several 20+ lb. bags, I knew I was in for a good time We started catching fish right away....we mainly fished for crappie but of course I managed to squeeze plenty of bass fishing in. This lake has so many big fish its unreal! And the Spots....my goodness what some big spots we caught. There are so many of these things running around, it was hard to keep them off your line! I will definitly be going back in the near future. Cant wait to see the video of when the big boys fish that lake. I seen several of them practicing the week I was down there. I was blessed to get to have about a 30 min. conversation with a one named Taj. He is a Japanese angler that is in the Elite Series. He was just cruising by us and I guess he seen me land the 3 pounder I caught as he was passing because he proceeding to idle up next to me hoping to get some great info from a local on the lake Below are some pics I got of some of the fish I caught. The largemouth went right at 6 lb., the big KY was a touch over 4 lb., and notice the giant crappie. The one was 17.5 in, long and 12 in. tall. Our scales tore up but she had to be over 3 lb. Like I said, UNREAL fishery! Go if you have not been, I promise you will not be disapointed

Great trip, but those spots aren't Kentucky spots. They are the Alabama strain. Way bigger and meaner than a kentucky spot. Fun to catch ! Glad to hear West Point is getting back to it's old self.

Well whatever kind of Spot, they are some bruisers in there! And you are right, meaner! They will bite the fire out of you, and have some pretty lethal teeth...never noticed our KY's to have fangs like that

You ought to see how big those spots get in Carters Lake ( North Georgia). More 5 and 6 lb spots come out of that lake than anywhere in the US. I just got a 5.25lb spot last weekend. I would just assume fish for those big ol spots , rather than largemouth. Great fishing report !
