Fished the first winter tournament of the year this past weekend. Started off throwing crankbaits and slow rolling spinnerbaits. Within the first 10 minutes my partner put two keepers in the boat both being around 2.5lbs . Hopped some points and put a 3lber in the boat. Headed up river a bit and my partner lands one pushing 4lbs on a crankbait. By now the sun was high and bright , so it got much tougher. I kept getting grea bites on a fishhead spin, but they just wouldn't eat it !

Decided to fill out our limit, so hit some shady banks with a shakeyhead. Put a 12incher in the boat pretty quick, then culled it out pretty quick with a 14incher. Not a steller day, but not bad for not pre fishing. Ended up weighing in 13.57lbs. But it took over 18lbs to win and big fish was 5.30lbs . Fishing will really get good with these cooler temps coming. Oh if you have never heard of Carters lake, it's a spotted bass lake. Known for trophies. Rarely ever see a largemouth or smallmouth . The spots are the Alabama strain, so they get big. Fantastic lake !
