My choice rod for Cranking/Spinnerbaiting is showing it's age. Whats the best method for cleanly removing the glue around the Line guides so I can retie and reglue them? What about glue? I want it to look neat I know hot glue will work but its messy clear fingernail polish maybe? HELP

well learn somethin new on here every day!
I had him split grip three of my trigger rods last year and balance them and I love them now. Got alot better feel now. He does great work. I just asked him about two weeks ago to start looking for some blanks in which to custom build me two rods over the winter.

the best way to remove the old wraps:

use a hair dryer to heat the wrap ~30 seconds

use an exacto knife or razor blade to cut the thread on top of the guide foot

hair dryer for a few more seconds ~30 seconds

use your finger to pull off the thread, heating again as necessary

once the thread is gone, use your fingernail to scrape off any residue left behind, using more heat as necessary.

you can try a heatgun, but i don't like them. a hairdryer has always worked best for me.

no flames, and be careful not to scratch the rod blank with the exacto knife. there are tons of free tutorials on the internet about how to re-wrap, but it's a process that may be best left to a builder as there will be quite a few small tools, thread, finish, etc involved. if you're interested in learning to build or repairing several rods, it may be worth it. if not, just pay to have it done and be done with it.

Good info on taking off guides but if you are not able to replace them yourself then have someone do it. Paul in Kingston is good. I can also help in rebuilding. Have build alot of rods for myself and friends. Feel free to contact me or come by and talk. #865-851-8616-Good luck Bill
