Default weir pond 8/3

i floated the weir pond below the big dam today with the brother in law. put in about 530 and fished until about 11. cold clear water and heavy fog usually works in my favor, but today it was a little slow. i caught 5 and the brother in law managed 4. we saw only brown and brook trout today, but the bait fishermen looked like they were doing alright with the rainbows. the fishing was good if you weren't in my canoe...

How close to the dam do you paddle? Seems like there could be some monsters in thr deep water below the spill gates but someone told me it was dangerous over there.. thoughts?

i have never paddled up past the songbird access. though i have seen a pontoon float sitting in there while they were generating. looked like it created a big back eddy one could just swirl in all day if they wanted. i've always figured, in this post 9/11 world, one could get too close to a dam and have the cops or worse called. that and the "subject to change at any time" line when you call for the schedule. i was fishing behind miller island one day when there was an unscheduled release, it was not fun wading back out in nearly chest deep water.

i did see a couple of kayakers fishin around last sat. was that you by any chance?

We put in at millers and paddled up to the weir dam that day actually. Blue kayak.

I always catch a ton of fish at Miller's but larger fish close to the big dam.
