I have a good friend i recently got to know. he has a cabin on one of the lake of the woods islands. he wants me and my dad to come up and fish with him this year. I think about the only time i can go is in august do you guys think that will be ok and will we catch fish then??? what do i need to expect I have never been that far north, any pointers would be great...
I'll chime in here. August usually brings the most stable weather of the season, warm to hot days and cool nights.
Will you catch fish at that time of year YES, don't know what you are targeting but Lake of the Woods is a very large body of water that sports a wide variety of fish, musky, pike, walleye, bass and crappie.
I have never been there personally but have made many trips up to the Great White North in August. My suggestion to you if you have the chance to go DO IT! I really don't think you'll be disappointed.
August is perfect. Usually, by that time, the bugs are gone and like Whopper said things have stabilized. The new moon in Aug has traditionally been a big-fish period as well.
Go, have fun, and stop on your way in Toronto to pick me up.
I grew up in Fargo ND a few hours south of there...Ive been there a few times when I was in my teens and twenties...Awsome place!! When you get there you will see why many call it "God's Country"!! The water can be 30 feet deep and you can see the bottom like lookin thru glass...I remember coming in from a great day of walleye fishing, to see a guide coming in with at least 4 - 50" musky...tons of rock islands...easy to get lost...get a guide for a day...good luck!
