I used to fish with Bill Braswell quite often a few years ago and lost track of him. Well I found him at the Jacob's Bldg. fishing show giving seminars as last years (2011) Crappie Champion. We had a great time recalling some past fishing trips. It is great to see old friends again.

I would sure love to ask him some stuff. It seems like I have no problem catching crappie I just have a problem catching keepers. Where do the bigger crappie go? I probably caught 100 this past weekend with 1 keeper and it was barely a keeper. Please chime in if you can help.

I have heard a lot of short fish being caught lately and I hope that translates to a great season coming. Crappie seem to be very cyclic in good and bad years. Hope this is the start of a good one. Wish I had more help in the "chime in".

I really don't know how to put this in words to make sence. But last year we caught a bunch of short fish also so where are they this year. Where do these keeper crappie stage? Do they hold in deeper water while the short (smaller) fish move up? I've heard that the bigger ones will stay deeper under the small fish. Maybe the bigger ones are there in the mix but there not as aggressive. I would like to better understand the science of the fish instead of looking for the boats and fishing along side of someone who is catching them. I guess I'm really wanting to be more independent and be able to know what they should be doing or where they should be at before I ever put the boat in the water.

I panfish religiously. I enjoy catching big bluegill and crappie. What I have learned is this. If i was catching keepers on a steady pace and it suddenly changed. I would move my boat into deeper water. If i was fishing ten feet deep I would move out further on the point in three foot increments. Until I found keepers.
