Use a small high quality swivel or your line with twist up in a mess

definitely a swivel! i'm always paranoid about presentation so sometimes i use a leader between the swivel and the cleo. especially in the clinch, or freestone streams where the water is clear as moonshine. i almost never use a brass finish swivel. personally i prefer to use blackened or bronzed

Very interesting info! I am in a bit of a competitive situation. I have family coming up to stay at a cabin on the stream in pittman center next week. Last year we caught a decent amount of stocked rainbows on salmon eggs and rooster tails. The problem is that the out of town family took me to trout school. I want an advantage over them next week! Pardon my ignorance but this is the first I have heard in regards to cleo spoons. What presentation do you use with these?

cast and retrieve. a cleo wiggles and spins so the swivel is a must. i love the pittman center area, that is probably my favorite stream. in the warmer months like this i have limited out many times using crickets. sink them don't use a bobber... i used a #10 baitholder hook and a split shot about 18" above it. use enough weight that you can feel it on bottom, but not so much that it snags constantly. i hook the cricket just behind his head and run it all the way through and out its arse. this will keep them from stealing too many and hides the hook

Thanks for the info. I actually killed it on an all silver little cleo ! Caught my limit in 1 hour. Had to start releasing. Switched to powerbait worms near the emert cove covered bridge and could have caught another limit. Fishing is as good as I have seen it this time of year. Will try crickets tomorrow.

my brother in law, before he got the fly fishing bug, was the guy who would use one lure all day. he could go 4 hrs without a bite and still refuse to change lures. usually he was right though, sooner or later something would bite and he rarely went home skunked. the silver cleo was one of his favorites. glad you did good on one too
