I assume they're not stocked anymore, and I can't find much information about them. Can they still be caught on the Watauga? I'm mostly just curious, but it would be fun to try and find out...

They stocked them once in watauga in the mid eighties i believe. They are long gone by now i'd say. They were similar to a brown.

I heard of a couple being caught about 3 years ago ,but that was hear say and you know how that goes. The eggs came from Yugoslavia in 1969 and was ship to the fish & wildlife service where they started hatching them and raising stocking in a few states. They were stocked a few times and they observered them spawning but wouldnt reproduce anywhere. Then the wars and stuff leading to the breakup of Yugoslavia they were no longer able to get more eggs and gave the project up.I maybe way off on this and wrong because it was just what i have been told from different people, but sounded good to me ...lol. I remember my uncle and cousin goin out trolling for them at night on watauga and bringing back some nice ones.

The world record (tie) came from Watauga. I've never heard of another being caught in there though.
